Marking the roll

Mark each student present, late, absent or excused, including every student in a group lesson.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

If the roll is not marked, the lesson is not finished: the family is not charged correctly and the tutor is not paid. Here tutors mark each student with one tap, or everyone at once, and each mark saves as you press it. The office can trust the roll for billing and pay without chasing anyone.

Marking the roll records who came, completes the lesson, and is what lets your centre charge the family and pay the tutor. The lesson's tutor (or the covering tutor) marks it, and so can staff who may edit lessons.

Before you start

The roll opens once the lesson has started. A cancelled lesson has no roll.

Steps

  1. Open the lesson from Today (Mark the roll), your calendar, or the lesson page, which has a Roll section.
  2. For each student, press Present, Late, Absent or Excused.
  3. If everyone came, press the one button at the top instead: it reads "was here" for one student, or Everyone here for a group.
  4. Each mark saves as you press it. Change a mark by pressing another button.

How the lesson is settled

  • One student: present or late completes the lesson. Absent makes it a no-show.
  • A group lesson: the lesson is completed as soon as any student is present or late. It is a no-show only when every student is absent.
  • Excused does not change the lesson on its own. It records that the student was excused.
  • After a mark, a note may appear about the family's charge (for example, that nothing was charged yet). Read it, and tell your centre's admin if it looks wrong.

Good to know

  • Marking and unmarking is safe to repeat. If you change a mark, the charge follows the new mark.
  • Once anyone attended, you can open Coach me on this lesson for a short reflection.
  • If your centre manages lessons in Teachworks for now, the roll shows the marks the sync brought in and cannot be changed here. Mark it in Teachworks.
