Wrapping up a lesson

Write your lesson notes, the update for the family and the homework in one place, and save them together.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

After a long day of teaching, typing notes, a parent update and homework into three places is the job tutors put off. The wrap-up does all three in one screen and one save, with an optional draft from the lesson record that you check and change. Parents get a clear update and you get home sooner.

The wrap-up is the one place to finish a lesson. Notes, the family update and homework save together, so you never type anything twice. The tutor delivering the lesson can wrap it up, and so can staff who may edit lessons.

Steps

  1. Open the lesson and press Wrap up, or press Wrap up on Today.
  2. Under Lesson notes, jot a few words in What we covered, What went well and Next focus. Press Dictate to speak instead of typing.
  3. Press Draft with AI if you want a first draft of the notes, the Update for the family and homework. Read every line and change anything that is not right.
  4. Under Homework, check each task: a title, instructions, when it is due (at the next lesson, or a set number of days) and whether AI hints are allowed. Remove any you do not want.
  5. Press Save all.

Teachworks lessons

While your centre still books lessons in Teachworks, you wrap them up here in the same way. Press Wrap up on Today once the lesson has started. You can wrap up a Teachworks lesson you teach (it carries your Teachworks number) or cover, and staff who may edit lessons can wrap up any of them.

  • The wrap-up is kept here. Nothing is sent to Teachworks, and the roll and billing stay in Teachworks.
  • Homework is due at the student's next lesson, Teachworks or here, whichever comes first.
  • The student must be linked to a student here (brought in with the Teachworks import). If not, the wrap-up says so.
  • Staff who may view lessons but not edit them can read a wrap-up, but not change it.

Telling the family

When you save a new or changed Update for the family, each parent of the child is told in the app. A family that asked for email in their settings also gets an email, which names the child and the lesson date and links to the lesson. Saving again within 15 minutes does not tell them a second time. The saved line under the form says who was told.

What the draft uses

  • The draft is written from the lesson record and what you typed. Any sentence with a number that is not in the record or your notes is taken out before you see it.
  • For an online classroom lesson, the record also has who joined and for how long, and whether the board was used.
  • If your centre allows it, a tutor can choose Lesson notes in the online classroom. Only the tutor's own words are kept, on that device, for at most a day. On the wrap-up, Use what I said in the lesson adds them to the draft once. They are never stored and never used as a source for numbers.

Good to know

  • The family update is what parents read on the lesson. If the lesson already has family notes, you are shown them before they are replaced.
  • To open next lesson shows the focus from last time. Only what you add to the next focus is kept.
  • Below the form are the voice note and the lesson's notes and files.
  • If Draft with AI is not offered, write the notes yourself.
  • A lesson that comes from Teachworks has no wrap-up yet. Set its homework from Teaching > Homework.
