When lessons are managed in Teachworks

What changes while your centre keeps its lessons in Teachworks, and why the past lesson reminder asks you to mark them there.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

Moving from one system to another is safer done in steps, but two places to book the same lesson would cause double bookings. While this is on, lessons keep being booked and marked in the system you are moving from, and are read only here. Staff still use notes, wrap-ups, homework and the classroom here, and the screens say plainly where to make each change.

Some centres keep booking and marking lessons in Teachworks for a while after they start using this portal. While that is switched on, lessons here are read only.

Before you start

Your centre's admin chooses this on Billing policy, in the card While you still use Teachworks, under Lessons: Managed in Teachworks (read only here) or Managed here. Changing it needs the settings permission and two-step sign-in.

What you see while it is on

  • Lessons come across from Teachworks after each sync, and show on calendars, the Today page and family pages.
  • You cannot mark the roll, book, move or cancel a lesson here. Where you would, you see: "Lessons are managed in Teachworks for now. Make this change in Teachworks and it will appear here after the next sync."
  • The roll shows any marks the sync brought in.
  • The past lesson reminder says "to mark in Teachworks". Its list, Lessons to mark in Teachworks, clears after the next sync once you have marked them there.

What still works here

Lesson notes, the wrap-up and its family update (a Teachworks lesson is wrapped up from Today with Wrap up, and the update is kept here, never sent to Teachworks), homework, the online classroom and its board, seating, and lesson requests. Booking that a lesson request leads to still happens in Teachworks.

Good to know

  • Families see the same sentence on their lesson pages, and cannot cancel or move a lesson from here.
  • When your centre switches it to Managed here, everything works as normal straight away.
