Marking homework

Find hand-ins waiting to be marked, check the AI first pass, give a grade and feedback, and return the work.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

Hand-ins arriving by photo, email and paper are hard to keep track of, and slow to mark. The Homework page lists everything waiting to be marked in one place, with an optional first pass that quotes the student's own work. Tutors give a grade and a sentence of feedback, and the student and family see it straight away.

The Homework page lists what is waiting to be marked, then every piece of homework you set. Open it from Teaching > Homework.

Before you start

Tutors see their own students' homework. Staff who can edit lessons see every tutor's hand-ins. Tutors and admins can also press Set homework to set a task outside a wrap-up.

Steps

  1. Open Teaching > Homework. The To mark list is at the top.
  2. Press Mark on a hand-in.
  3. Read the student's work: photos, the pencil pad or typing.
  4. If there is an AI first pass, read it as a suggestion. It quotes the work for each criterion, and any quote it could not find in the work is cleared. Each line of maths is checked separately.
  5. Pick a grade: Excellent, Satisfactory or Needs work.
  6. Write a sentence or two under Feedback for the student.
  7. Press Return. The student and their family can see it now.

Good to know

  • Needs work puts the homework back on the student's list for another go.
  • The AI first pass is never shown to the student or family. Only your grade and feedback are.
  • Homework set with no AI help, and marked by a person, counts towards what a student can do on their own.
  • Families see each task's status on their homework page.
