Switching on home tutoring
Turn on lessons at students' homes, choose when a tutor sees a family's address, and set where you travel.
Updated 18 October 2026
Why this exists
Teaching in families' homes brings questions an office has to answer before the first visit: when the tutor sees the address, where you travel, and who is alerted if something goes wrong. This page lets the centre owner or admin settle those once. Tutors then get clear rules and families' addresses stay private until they are needed.
Home tutoring lets you book a lesson at the student's home. It is off until your centre turns it on.
Before you start
You need the settings.edit permission, and two-step sign-in. Open Settings > Home tutoring. Every change is recorded in your audit log before it is saved.
Turn it on
- Tick Teach in students' homes. This adds "At the student's home" wherever a lesson is booked, and the address book.
- Under When a tutor sees the address, choose how long before the lesson the tutor sees the street: from 2 hours to 14 days (7 days is the default). Until then the tutor sees the suburb only.
- Save.
Turning it on also copies in starting home visit rules and a code of conduct for you to change.
Where you travel
Under Where you travel, add areas by Postcodes, by suburb, or by Distance from a campus. An enquiry, an address or a home lesson outside your areas is flagged with the reason. Nothing is refused: you decide.
Who is alerted
Under Who is alerted, add your safety contacts in order. They are told when a tutor presses the help button, when a lesson cannot start or ends early, and when a tutor does not check in or out. With nobody listed, alerts go to your centre's safety contact email, then your admins.
Maps
Connect Google Maps under Settings > Integrations to see your areas and today's visits on a map, use distances, and give tutors travel times. Without it, everything is listed instead.
Good to know
- A home lesson always needs the tutor to have a current, verified working with children check. This cannot be turned off.
- Gate codes and home notes never go in an email, a text message or the AI assistant.
