Home visit rules and the code of conduct
Write your centre's own rules for lessons in homes, decide how each one works, and ask families to accept your code of conduct.
Updated 18 October 2026
Why this exists
Every centre runs home visits differently, and rules kept in an email nobody reads do not protect anyone. Here the centre owner or admin writes your own rules and code of conduct, and decides what each one does: shown to tutors, agreed by families, ticked at check-in or checked at booking. Tutors and families see the same rules, and every version is kept.
Every centre writes its own home visit rules. You start from templates and change anything.
Before you start
You need settings.edit and two-step sign-in. Open Settings > Home tutoring and go to Home visit rules.
Each rule
Give it a title and wording, switch it on or off, drag it into order, and choose what it does:
- Tell tutors and families: shown to the tutor before each visit and listed in the code of conduct.
- Families agree to it: part of the code of conduct a family accepts.
- Tutor confirms at check-in: the tutor ticks it when they check in.
- Stops a booking that breaks it: hours and public places are checked when the lesson is booked; any other rule has to be confirmed by the person booking.
Some rules carry settings, such as the hours lessons may run or "public place only". Choose Save rules. Each save keeps a full copy of the version.
When a lesson cannot start
Choose what it costs: Free, and a makeup is owed, As if the family cancelled, or As a no-show.
The code of conduct
Write its opening and closing words. Choose Show what families see to read it as a family will. Families accept it in their portal under Home lessons. Changing the code's own words or a "Families agree to it" rule asks every family to accept again.
Families and the code of conduct lists families with a home lesson in the next two weeks who have not accepted yet. A booking still goes ahead; the tutor is told.
Start again
Start again from the templates replaces your rules and wording with the starting templates, saved as a new version.
