A tutor's home visit day

Tell the family you are on your way, check in and out, report a lesson that cannot start, and get help quietly.

Why this exists

On a home visit you are on your own, and the centre cannot see how it is going. These buttons let you tell the family you are on the way, check in and out, report a lesson that could not start, and quietly ask for help. Each tap keeps the centre informed, so you are never left without backup.

Your home lessons show on Today with the address (once the window opens), directions, the family's notes and the buttons below.

Before the lesson

  • Read the centre's rules shown on the card. If it says "Code of conduct not yet accepted", the family has not accepted it yet.
  • On my way sends the family one message with your expected arrival time.

At the door

  1. Choose Check in now.
  2. Tick each statement under "Before I start this lesson, I confirm that:".
  3. Teach the lesson.

At the end

  • Check out when you leave.
  • I'm still here, running over if the lesson goes long.
  • The lesson ended early to tell the centre why.

If the lesson cannot start

Choose Can't start, say why, and choose Tell the centre. Your centre decides what that costs the family; if it is charged as a cancellation you are shown the charge and choose Confirm and tell the centre. A covering tutor's report is left for the centre to finish.

The help button

Need help? Alert the centre quietly emails and texts your centre's safety contacts with the address and your last location. The screen shows only "Sent." If nobody could be reached, it says so and shows Call 000 and a button to call the centre.

Your location

Your location is read once, only when you tap one of these buttons, and never in the background. Staff who keep the address book can see it; families never can.

If you forget

If you have checked in but not out, you are asked once after the lesson ends, then your centre's safety contacts are alerted. If you have not checked in 15 minutes after the start, you are asked, then they are alerted. This happens only when your centre uses check-in.
