Writing termly progress reviews
Check, edit and approve the short review each student's parents get near the end of term.
Updated 18 October 2026
Why this exists
Writing an end-of-term report for every student is one of the heaviest jobs of the term, and parents want more than "doing well". Progress reviews start from your own records of the term, so tutors check and add rather than write from scratch. Nothing reaches a parent until a person approves it.
Near the end of each term, every student taught at least twice that term gets a short review for their parents. A draft is made from your own records. Nothing reaches a parent until a person approves it.
Before you start
Your centre's admin switches on Termly progress review under Settings > Reviews and re-enrolment and chooses when drafts are made (three weeks before term ends by default). If you do not see Teaching > Progress reviews, it is not switched on for your centre yet.
Steps
- Open Teaching > Progress reviews.
- Open a review marked Waiting for approval or No draft yet.
- Read The record this draft is built from: wrap-ups, levels, results and what the student can do on their own.
- Check the three parts: What we covered, Where they started and where they are now and What is next. Press Draft with AI for a draft, or write it yourself.
- Change anything that is not right, then press Save.
- Press Approve and send to the family.
Good to know
- The draft uses only the record shown. Names are never sent to the AI. Any sentence with a number that is not in the record is taken out.
- Draft again with AI replaces what is in the boxes.
- Approve saves what is on screen first, so an unread draft is never sent.
- You can dismiss a review if a student should not get one this term.
- Where your centre offers re-enrolment for next term, an offer goes with the review when it is sent.
