Asking for leave

Ask for time you cannot teach, whole days or part of a day, and see what happens to your lessons while the office decides.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

Telling the office about leave by text or a phone call is easy to miss, and then a family waits for a tutor who is not coming. Here tutors send a leave request that lists the lessons it affects, and the office approves it and arranges cover. Urgent leave such as sickness reaches the office straight away.

Tell the office when you cannot teach from Home > My leave. The office approves every request and arranges cover for your lessons.

Steps

  1. Open My leave.
  2. Choose the Type of leave.
  3. Choose Whole days or Part of the day. For part of a day, give the times. Times are on your centre's clock.
  4. Choose the First day away and the Last day away. To repeat it, choose the days of the week and Repeat until.
  5. Check the lessons the form lists as falling in that time.
  6. Press Send for approval.

What happens next

  • Your request shows under Your requests as Waiting for approval until a person who can edit lessons approves or declines it. You are told in the app and by email.
  • For sick leave or bereavement, the office is told straight away and starts arranging cover before it is approved. For other kinds, cover starts on approval.
  • Families are not told automatically. The office decides what to say to them.
  • You can press Cancel this leave on a request you no longer need.

For the office

Requests appear on Scheduling > Leave and unavailability in Leave waiting for approval, urgent ones marked Urgent. Each shows the lessons it affects. Approve or decline it, ask for cover, or copy a ready message for a family. If your centre's lessons are managed in Teachworks for now, arrange cover in Teachworks.

Good to know

If you do not see Part of the day or Send for approval, approval of leave is not switched on for your centre yet, and the form sends your dates to the office straight away.
