Tutor referrals

Tutors and staff refer someone for a job, and earn a bonus once the new tutor has taught enough lessons.

Why this exists

Good tutors often know other good tutors, but a referral mentioned in passing is easily lost. Tutor referrals let any staff member refer someone in a minute, send the referral to Recruitment with their name on it, and pay the referrer a bonus once the new tutor has settled in.

Your own tutors often know good people. With tutor referrals switched on, any tutor or staff member can refer someone, and the referral lands in Recruitment tagged with who referred them.

Before you start

  • Viewing referrals needs recruitment.view. Changing the settings needs settings.edit, and an admin limited to some campuses cannot change them. Cancelling a bonus needs payroll.edit.
  • It is off until your centre switches it on. If you do not see it, it is not switched on for your centre yet.

Set it up

  1. Open People > Tutor referrals.
  2. Turn referrals on.
  3. Set Lessons the new tutor must teach (completed lessons, 10 by default) and the Bonus for the referrer ($).

The numbers in force when someone refers are kept with that referral, so changing them later does not change what anyone was promised.

Refer someone

  1. Press Refer someone on the Refer a tutor card on your Home > Today page. Tutors also find Refer a tutor in their avatar menu.
  2. Enter their name and email, what they could teach and why they would be a good fit.
  3. Tick that they have agreed to be referred and are 18 or over, then press Send referral.

Nobody is emailed. Your centre contacts the person. You can follow your referrals on the same page.

The bonus

The bonus waits until the new tutor has taught the set number of lessons, then is paid once in the next pay run. It is never paid to someone who referred themselves or to a referrer who has left. An admin can press Cancel this bonus, which is recorded in the audit log and cannot be undone.

Good to know

You can refer up to five people a day.
