Writing and sending mail

Write a message, attach files, choose whether it is a promotion, and check it before it goes.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

A message to a family should be easy to write and safe to send. The mailbox suggests the right people as you type, warns you about addresses that have bounced, and keeps promotions to people who have not opted out. You can write quickly and trust that each message reaches the right people in the right way.

Every message you send from the mailbox goes from your own address on your centre's email domain.

Write a message

  1. In Mail, press New message (or press c).
  2. Start typing a name in To. The mailbox suggests people you have written with, and your centre's parents and staff. An address that has bounced before is marked.
  3. Add a subject and write your message. Templates and Draft with AI can give you a start.
  4. Attach files with Attachments if you need to.
  5. Press Send (or Ctrl + Enter).

Is it a promotion?

Tick This is a promotion for offers such as a holiday program. Then:

  • each person gets their own copy with an unsubscribe link,
  • anyone who has opted out of promotions is skipped,
  • you cannot copy anyone in.

Leave it unticked for ordinary correspondence, such as a reply about a lesson. Correspondence is never sent to an address that has bounced; the mailbox tells you why.

Attachments

  • Up to 10 files and 20 MB in one message, and up to 10 MB a file.
  • Programs, scripts, web pages and documents with macros cannot be sent. Share a larger file from Files instead.

Before it sends

If a message still has a square-bracket gap such as [day and time], the mailbox asks you to fill it in first. After you press Send you have a few seconds to undo.

Good to know

  • Your draft saves itself as you type.
  • Remind me if nobody replies brings the conversation back if there is no answer after the days you choose.
