Closing a child's account

Stop a student signing in, without deleting anything they did, and open the account again later if needed.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

When a child leaves, or a parent asks for their child's sign-in to stop, deleting the account would lose their work and the record of what happened. Closing it stops the child signing in while keeping everything they did, and you can open it again if they come back. Families get a clear answer to their request, and the centre keeps its records.

A child never closes their own account. A parent asks the centre, or the centre decides, and staff close it from the family page.

Before you start

  • You need families.edit, and the family must be at one of your campuses.
  • This always asks for two-step sign-in.
  • The child must have their own sign-in.

Close the account

  1. Open the family from People > Families.
  2. Under the child, press Close account.
  3. Choose Who asked?: "A parent asked" or "The centre decided".
  4. Press Close (name)'s account.

The child can no longer sign in. They are also taken out of any online lesson they are in. Everything they did is kept.

Open it again

  1. Open the same family page.
  2. Under the child, press Open the account again, choose who asked, and press Open it again.

Good to know

  • Closing deletes nothing: progress, work and messages stay.
  • Each close and reopen is recorded with who asked.
  • If a child tries to delete their own account, they are told to ask a parent or the centre.
