Your centre's own subjects
Add subjects your centre teaches that are not on the standard list, and hide standard subjects you do not teach.
Updated 18 October 2026
Why this exists
If the subject list does not include what your centre teaches, staff type notes instead, and pickers fill up with subjects you never offer. As an admin, you can add your own subjects and hide standard ones you do not teach. Booking lessons, setting pay rates and choosing a student's subjects then show only what your centre really offers.
The portal comes with a standard list of school subjects. If your centre teaches something else, such as scholarship preparation, coding or public speaking, you can add it. You can also hide standard subjects you never teach, so they stop cluttering the pickers.
Before you start
- You need settings.edit and two-step sign-in.
- Your own subjects must be switched on for your centre. If the page says "Your own subjects are not switched on yet", ask your centre's admin to have them switched on. Until then, the standard list is used everywhere.
Add a subject
- Go to Settings > Subjects.
- Under Add a subject, type the subject name, choose a category and the year range it is for.
- Press Add subject.
It now appears in the subject pickers when booking a lesson, setting a pay rate, and choosing a student's subjects.
Change or retire one
- Change a subject's name or years and press Save.
- Press Retire when you stop teaching it. It is no longer offered for new lessons, but lessons and pay rates that already use it keep working. Restore brings it back.
Hide a standard subject
Under Standard subjects, press Hide beside one you do not teach. It disappears from your pickers only; other centres still see it. Lessons and pay rates that already use it keep working. Press Show to bring it back.
Good to know
- Your own subjects have no clearance test, so the subject check at booking never blocks a lesson in one.
- Library content and the Bookshelf use the standard subjects only.
- Every change is recorded in the audit log.
