Worksheets and answer keys

Mark the answers in a worksheet, add space to write, and hand out a student copy with the answers left blank.

Updated 18 October 2026

Why this exists

Keeping one worksheet for you and another for students means two files to update, and a real risk of handing out the answers. Here you write one worksheet with the answers marked, then make a student copy with them left blank. Tutors keep one file and students only ever get the copy meant for them.

Write one worksheet with the answers in it, then give students a copy without them.

Mark the answers

  1. Type the answer where it belongs in the worksheet.
  2. Select it and choose Format > Mark as answer (Ctrl+Alt+A).
  3. Answers show in colour for you.

To see what a student sees, turn on View > Hide answers (what a student sees).

Add space to write

Choose Insert > Answer space and pick:

  • Lines to write on
  • Maths grid
  • Working box

Give students a copy

  • File > Make a student copy (answers left blank) makes a new document with every answer removed. Share that copy with the student.
  • File > Download also has Student copy, Word (answers left blank), Student copy, PDF (answers left blank) and Answer copy, Word (answers in colour).

Good to know

  • Sharing the original worksheet shares the answers too. Always share the student copy.
