Learning to type

The typing course, the junior track, certificates, and beating your own best.

Why this exists

This helps you learn to type with all your fingers, a few keys at a time. Soon you can write on a keyboard more quickly.

Typing helps you write faster on a keyboard. Open Typing to start.

The course

The course is a path of short lessons. Each one teaches a few new keys.

  1. Open the next lesson on your path.
  2. Put your fingers on the home keys.
  3. Type the letters and words on the screen. The hands picture shows which finger to use.
  4. Earn stars for each lesson.

Try to be careful before you try to be fast.

The junior track

If you are in Kindergarten to Year 2, you start on the junior track. The letters are bigger and it is all about getting it right.

Certificates

You earn a certificate when you finish a stage of the course. You also earn speed certificates, like 20 words a minute, from your best timed test, as long as you type at least 95 out of every 100 letters right. See yours in Certificates.

Beat your best

Open Beat your best to race against a replay of your own best run. The only person you are racing is you.
