Buttons in your online lesson

How to mute, turn your camera on or off, react, raise your hand and answer a poll.

Why this exists

These buttons help you join in during an online lesson. You can talk, turn your camera on or off, and let your tutor know you have something to say.

The buttons are along the bottom of the screen.

Microphone and camera

  • Mute stops people hearing you. Tap Unmute to talk again.
  • Camera off stops people seeing you. Tap Camera on to come back.
  • A button turns red while it is off.
  • If you talk while you are muted, a little note says "You're muted".

Raise your hand

Tap Raise hand when you want to say something. Your hand stays up until you tap Lower hand, or your tutor lowers it.

React

Tap React to send a thumbs up, a heart, a laugh, a wow or a clap. It floats over your picture for a moment. You can only send a few in a row.

Polls

Sometimes your tutor asks a quick question with a few answers. Tap the answer you choose. You can change it until the poll closes. Nobody sees which answer you picked, only how many people picked each one.

The whiteboard

Use the pen to write and the eraser to rub out. If your screen says Following tutor, it is showing the page your tutor is on.

Captions

Tap Turn captions on to see the words people say written on the screen.
