Joining an online lesson

How to get into your online lesson, check your camera and microphone, and what to do while you wait.

Why this exists

This helps you get ready for your online lesson, so you can see and hear your tutor. You can check your camera and sound before you start.

Some lessons happen online. You see your tutor, they see you, and you both write on the same whiteboard.

Get in

  1. Go to your home page. Just before your lesson, a Join the lesson button shows up.
  2. Tap it.
  3. Check yourself: look at your camera picture, say something to see the microphone bar move, and play the test sound.
  4. If something has a cross next to it, follow the steps on the screen. You can also join with your camera off.

Waiting for your tutor

You wait until your tutor is in the room. While you wait you can play a quick game:

  • Quick sums
  • Times tables
  • Spelling
  • Typing

Your Bushmate waits with you. The screen tells you when your tutor arrives.

Good to know

  • Your tutor and your parent may both be in the lesson. The screen always shows who is there.
  • Your lesson is not filmed. The whiteboard is saved so you can look at it later.
  • Anything you write in a lesson can be seen by your tutor and your parents.
