Importing from a spreadsheet
Create students, parents and tutors in bulk from a CSV file, or enrol whole families with Quick enrol.

Why this exists
Typing in every student, parent and tutor one by one when you start is slow and full of chances for typing mistakes. If your records are in a spreadsheet, admin staff can bring them all in from a CSV file, with a preview before anything is created. Nobody is emailed until you choose to invite them.
If your records are in a spreadsheet, you can bring them in from a CSV file instead of typing them one by one.
Before you start
- Students and parents need families.edit. Tutors need tutors.edit. Tabs you cannot use are greyed out.
- Save your spreadsheet as CSV (comma separated values).
Full import
- Open People > Import (Import). The Full import tab is open.
- Choose Students, Parents or Tutors.
- Press Download template CSV. It lists every column and two sample rows. Required columns are marked on the page.
- Copy your data into the template and save it as CSV.
- Drop the file on the page (Step 2) and check the preview of the first 10 rows (Step 3).
- Press the import button. The run appears in the history below with Success, Partial or Errors.
Quick enrol
The Quick enrol tab takes one row per family and creates the family, its students and an invite code in one go. Every family is a tutoring family unless its row says no.
Good to know
- Each parent and tutor gets a sign-in, and the import emails nobody. When it has finished you can send a sign-in invitation from People > Logins and roles, with a preview first, or they can use "Forgot password".
- A family the import creates is a tutoring family unless its row says no. A family that already exists keeps what it has.
- A campus-restricted admin can only add people to their own campuses. New families need one of those campuses in the campus column.
- An account whose home campus you cannot reach is left alone and reported as an error.
