A student's own mobile and email
Keep a student's own mobile and email for emergency and operational notices only.
Updated 18 October 2026
Why this exists
When a lesson is cancelled or a campus closes at short notice, an older student may need to hear directly, not only through a parent. Student contacts keep a student's own mobile and email for those notices only. Promotions can never be sent to students.
Your centre can keep a student's own mobile number and email address, for any age. They are used only for emergency and operational notices, such as a closure, a cancellation or a safety matter. Never for promotions.
Before you start
- Seeing them needs families.view. Changing them needs families.edit. Both are held to your campuses.
- If the box says "Student contact details are not switched on yet", ask your centre's admin.
Add or change them
- Open the family from People > Families, or the student's own page.
- Under the child, find their contact box.
- Enter an Australian mobile (for example 0412 345 678) and an email address they read.
- Save.
Parents can also add and change their own children's details from their settings page.
Sending a notice to students
In Broadcast, choose Students (notices only). Students can only receive an operational notice, and only those with a mobile or email saved here. A promotion can never be sent to students.
Good to know
- Only Australian mobile numbers are accepted, because a text cannot reach a landline.
- A student's sign-in name is refused as an email, because it does not receive mail.
